When, and as I write, I perform extensive research–intelligence gathering I call it. I obtain information from publications and from people and from the things around them, something I learned from my career as a forensic psychologist. The libraries of Paris, London, and Dublin are three of my favorite locations for some of this investigative search. Likewise, the mountains of South America, the high desert outside Taos, and streets of Sienna have also produced important evidentiary finds. Then, there are the people I meet during my wanderings. Their stories, their desires, their problems provide further material. Many times, this inquiry, this search for information, becomes a story in and of itself.
To date, however, this backstory, this narrative of how and where I acquired the background material for the tales I write, remains unpublished and unknow except to the few colleagues and associates who help and or journey with me. Therefore, because of a friend’s suggestion, I have decided to publish some of this material on this page so that my readers may obtain a glimpse into my process and realize the really quite extraordinary world we live in.
